I have been wanting to make this quilt for a very long time. I thought it would be a perfect fit for Will’s big kid room since I thought it was going to be a lot of work and I wanted it to last a long time. I held off on making it since the task seemed too daunting until I got my new Bernina sewing machine last spring. I tried making a pillow sham first and loved it, so for Christmas I decided to try the quilt. It was much, MUCH more work than I thought it would be. I have a new found respect for those who quilt on a regular basis.
It took me about a month working on it off and on. It was pretty simple to piece together and quilting in straight lines is a piece of cake compared to the designs and patterns that I’ve seen, but it was hard to work with something so big when it would slip off the table or get bunched up under my fairly small sewing machine. Maybe I should go learn how to use this machine.
Of course Felicity’s doll needed a matching quilt for her matching bed!
And what does Will think of his new quilt you may ask?
His exact words were:
“I don’t wike it mommy. Let’s give it to somebody else.”
Oh, three year olds! In fact, it’s a bit of a miracle that it was on his bed this morning since all day yesterday he kept taking it off.
Ever since we moved out of our house last year, I have thought our living room was a little dull. Without hardwood floors and windows on every side, I guess it’s bound to feel a little more dim inside. I’ve been dreaming of redecorating our living room and these are a few of the ideas I’ve come up with!
Club Sofa from Macy’s
A pair of Strandmon Chair from Ikea
We want a photo wall – since anything on our side tables is too tempting for our toddler. This might be a little much but I love the shelves they’re on too.
A pair of Metropolitan Cubes from Pottery Barn (these match our side tables)
I am trying to figure out how to make one of these frames for our TV. Not green, of course, but love the idea all the same.
I love pretty much everything about this living room… just with a little more colour.
And maybe some bright pillows!
And in case you are wondering. I’m not too worried about light furniture and a baby that likes to eat blackberry jam. He eats in the kitchen and isn’t that what washable fabric is for?
I have been wanting to post photos of our apartment for a few weeks now, but I keep waiting until I can take better photos or have all the toys cleaned up off the floor. The only problem is, as long as our kiddo is home and awake, that’s not going to happen! So, this was a whirlwind cleanup this afternoon while Will was napping. Excuse some of the lighting in the photos… it’s hard to get it right while aiming the camera at a window… of which we now happily have quite a few!
We are really enjoying our new space and are still working on settling in. There are still pictures to hang and closets to organize, but all in all we are happy here! And you want to know the best part? We no longer have to brush our teeth at night in the kitchen and Will has his own bedroom.
(That white appliance is a tiny dishwasher and it’s our favourite thing!)
(someone wanted to be picked up – how can you resist that face?)
